LEARN TO ROLLER SKATE - HOT TIPS!

WANT THE LOW DOWN ON ALL THINGS SKATE?

Here’s some facts about skating that will attract any newbie or keep the disco divas coming back for more.

1. Skating is good for your physical and mental wellbeing

Roller-skating is just as aerobically effective as running, swimming, and biking (even the National Heart Association agree). Also, have you ever seen a grumpy person skating? It's incredibly good for your mood - releasing those 'feel good' endorphins. There's a great social side to skating too. It’s not a lot of fun to exercise by yourself, which is the case with most forms of exercise. Roller skating is a sport where you can find yourself in a group of literally hundreds of people doing the same thing. They are not at the skating rink for exercise – they are there for the fun, music, lights and socialising. It’s easy to spend an hour or more roller skating.

2. On aveg. a person burns up to 482 calories skating for one hour

Depending on the intensity of your skating, roller-skating can be a low or high calorie burner. Other factors include your age, sex, health status, muscle mass and fitness levels.

3. Skating improves fitness levels

Especially cardiovascular development, muscle strength and lung capacity. One hour on skates burns about as many calories as running while strengthening your leg muscles. 30 minutes of roller skating produces a heart rate of at least 148 beats per minute.

4. Roller skating works most muscle groups

The primary muscles Include ; glutes, quads, abs, calves and arms. Secondary muscles worked are the erector spinae in the back, abdominals (#AbsHarderThanDiamonds!) and obliques (#WindYoWaist).

5. Skating causes 50% less stress to joints than running

Skating has a fluidity movement. Always skate on smooth surfaces and avoid making sudden stops, turns or twists to reduce the impact on your joints.

6. But not only that, it’s super fun!
